We feel that it is important and useful to our current and future guests for the Alpine Adventure Agency website to provide as many resources as possible on the areas to which we travel. For this reason, I have included a video gallery containing an extremely varied assortment of clips and full-length videos. Many of these are in Italian, but some have been translated into English. All are worth watching for the visually unique elements they highlight. |
SAN MARTINO DI CASTROZZA, PRIMIERO AND VANOI:San Martino di Castrozza (1450m) is nestled at the base of the famous Pale di San Martino mountain chain, crown jewel of the Italian Dolomites, located just 68 miles North East of Venice, Italy. Rich in history and tradition, the resort town of San Martino di Castrozza began as a cherished alpine playground over 150 years ago frequented by European aristocracy and royalty. Today, it remains a charming, highly considered, European resort destination for all backgrounds and ages.
The Primiero and Vanoi Valleys are just south of San Martino and offer an astoundingly rich calendar of cultural events, traditional festivals, places to visit, and activities for every member of the family.

Cant Del Gal is a wonderful Inn and Restaurant tucked away in Val Canali, one of the most breathtaking locations in the Pale di San Martino mountain chain. The establishment has become such an important institution locally that the geographical area in which it is found now goes by its name. Cant Del Gal is the last stop for an alpinist or hiker as they head into the woods and rocky peaks of the Pale mountains. When I found the video called "Silent Mountain" on YouTube, I knew I had to include it where my guests could see it. There is no denying the mountains their glorious wildnerness, power, and majesty. Nicola and Marzia Cemin, who own Cant Del Gal, truly have an amazing backyard. |

"LE VIE FERRATE"
The following videos feature the Vie Ferrate that allow climbers to scale higher into the peaks. Via Ferrata literally means "iron way," and these vie ferrate were built by the troops during World War One as a means to safely and quickly get soldiers through the mountains. By means of cords, ladders, and other permanent equipment affixed to the mountain, aspiring alpinists can make very rewarding climbs. Wikipedia has an extremely interesting article on the Vie Ferrate.

VIDEO: FERRATA DEL VELO E FERRATA PORTON
This video is amazing to watch, even if you have experience rock climbing on the vie ferrate. The "Velo" is the "veil" of the Madonna, the mountain that sits at the edge of San Martino. This particular excursion is considered to be more difficult than many others in the area, and should be pursued only in the company of one of the alpine guides. It is one of the most rewarding excursions in the area.
VIDEO: Sentiero Dino Buzzati (Pale di San Martino)
This video makes me want to go on a diet. I had to chuckle at the heavy breathing at the end of the clip when the climber makes it to the top - nice to know he's human!
VIDEO: Gita Sulle Pale di San Martino
This one visually is very descriptive of a nice several-day trek through the Pale mountains with stops at a few of the well-known rifugi (mountain shelters) that host climbers overnight. Photos of the Baita Segantini (a destination in all of our Alpine vacations) are seen at the beginning of the video.

VIDEO ON THE VILLAGE OF TRANSACQUA:
The borough of Transacqua has produced a very informative video that includes segments of places and people included in our various vacations. Here is a list of the following places to stop and watch the video if you choose to fast forward to our special points of interest:
|
VIDEO: THE VILLAGE OF TRANSACQUA
Video courtesy of the borough of Transacqua
This video begins with the legend of how the Primiero Valley was formed...long ago, there was no valley, just a large body of water contained by the surrounding mountains. A persistent otter began to scratch away at the mountains at the water's edge until a trench formed, allowi all the water to run out and leaving behind an empty area which became the thriving Primiero Valley. To this day, the otter (La Lontra in Italian) is an official symbol of the valley and can be viewed on coats of arms and other official emblems throughout the valley's six villages.

WINTER FUN IN SAN MARTINO DI CASTROZZA (NOT JUST OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES): This video is excellent because it highlights not only the Malga Ces in another wonderful segment, but it also touches on the many ski slopes and runs available if you decide to purchase a SkiPass to use during the workshop. The segment on the Malga Ces is wonderful because it highlights interviews with Maria Giovanna, the owner, and her chef as well. It also gives you a glimpse into the kitchen where we will be doing our cooking demonstration. There are segments on several of the places in our daily excursions: The cable car Rosetta, the restaurant at the top of the Rosetta, The Altopiano of the Pale di San Martino, and the Tognola (where we have our wine and cheese degustation). 3:35 Colverde ski run, which is located next door to our hotel.
4:35 Cable Car Rosetta, the restaurant at the top, and the Altopiano of the Pale di San Martino.
5:05 Night skiing (7:30pm-11:30pm) on the slope next door to our hotel.
5:50 Punto Ces next door to Malga Ces.
7:00 The Tognola 12:00 Day Spas in town 13:30 - 17:30 Malga Ces interviews and view of kitchen. |

CAROUSEL OF THE MALGHE
(features Malga Ces, location of one of our cooking demonstrations featured in our Alpine vacations).
One of our most popular outings with our past groups is our cooking demo and gourmet lunch at the Malga Ces (segment starts at 4:28 on the counter). Those of us who enjoy the indoors will love the beautiful, warm and inviting atmosphere and decor at Malga Ces and the warmth and charm of the owners, Maria Giovanna and Marco Scalet! Those of us who enjoy winter sports and snow will love one of the special activities in San Martino called the "Carousel of the Malghe." This activity is a progressive gourmet wine and regional food degustation at 4 different, well-known chalets and mountain huts which you reach as you ski down the slopes. |
