WELCOME TO THE DOLOMITES AND THE ITALIAN ALPS: AN UNESCO, WORLD HERITAGE SITE!
The Italian Dolomites are one of the most beautiful mountain chains in the world. These wild and majestic, jagged alpine peaks erupt from the earth and seem frozen in mid-explosion among lush meadows, thick conifer forests, waterfalls, and mountain streams. The intense beauty and power of the Italian Dolomites have been known to produce tears of pure emotion in those who have had the privilege to experience them in person. Their magical, glowing, ever-changing hues of coral and rose are mesmerizing, and the sheer majesty of their existence will remain in your soul for a lifetime.
Did you know that these unique peaks began as coral reefs in an ancient sea? As the waters receded over millions of years, the elements shaped what emerged, resulting in the exquisite, jagged peaks we know today. In June of 2009, UNESCO recognized the Dolomites as treasures of humanity and declared them a World Heritage Site.
This incredibly beautiful and magical mountain chain is located just 110 km (68 miles) northwest of Venice in the South Eastern European, Tyrolean Alps in the visually exciting and emotionally inspiring Trentino/ Sud Tirol-Alto Adige region. One of the most famous chains of mountains in the Dolomites are the Pale di San Martino. These are the beautiful peaks that shelter one of the crown jewels of the Dolomites, the charming, and internationally renowned and acclaimed ski resort town, San Martino di Castrozza. This exquisitely beautiful town surrounded by stunningly majestic peaks has been Daniela Anderson's maternal family's vacation home for over 50 years, and currently serves as The Alpine Adventure Agency's homebase. San Martino di Castrozza and the Pale di San Martino are featured in all of our Dolomites vacations.
Unlike many other boutique tour companies offering trips based in the Italian Dolomites, we truly will immerse you into daily Italian life, not as a tourist, but as an extended member of our family, which has had an established presence in the Italian Alps for many generations and centuries. We'll take you to places where commercial tourism has not yet destroyed the native culture and where the locals welcome you into their families with open arms! We'll explore the rugged and natural beauty of our surroundings and the cultural traditions, artisanal products and unique wines and cuisine of the magical Trentino-Sud Tirol-Alto Adige region of Italy! We invite you to explore one of Italy's best kept secrets: the majestic alpine peaks, the charming townspeople, and the beautiful Tyrolean villages that dot the landscape of one of the most beautiful places on Earth, the Italian Dolomites! Welcome to Italy! We can't wait to meet you!
