If you have always wanted to experience the Riviera as a "local," this is your chance to embrace "La dolce vita!"

Monaco and Monte Carlo nestled on the French Riviera

We are thrilled to offer this fantastic, 6-day scenic tour of the French Riviera and the Italian Riviera (click here for photo and video gallery).  Yes, you can see the most famous places along this legendary stretch of oceanfront on an affordable budget because we have put together an economically conscious package that will let you sample the best of the Riviera and still have funds leftover to buy goodies on the trip to take home!

Our trip begins on July 14th  in Nice, France, and will end in Genova, Italy on July 19th.  Both have international airports with easy, direct flights from most cities.  Our private driver will be happy to pick you up and drop you off at the beginning and end of the trip - it's all included in your package!

The tour is led by Daniela Anderson, the bi-lingual Italian American owner of The Alpine Adventure Agency.  She has spent  a  life-time shared between the Tyrolean Alps (her mother and grandmother's birthplace) and the Italian Riviera (her grandfather's family has been in Genova since the late 1700's).   Her thorough knowledge of the area allows her to take her guests off the beaten path and immerse themselves in the culture.   If you have always wanted to experience the Riviera as a local, this is your chance to embrace "La dolce vita!"

Rapallo on the Italian Riviera

Our guests will spend one day each in Nice and Monaco / Monte Carlo, followed by a leisurely drive along the coast into Italy, through Genova, Boccadasse, Recco, Camogli (click here to see picture gallery), Portofino, and Santa Margherita before arriving at our final hotel on the waterfront in Rapallo, Italy.

The promenade in Santa Margherita on the Italian Riviera

From our new homebase, we will spend an entire day exploring legendary Portofino, and another day in one of the oldest port cities in the world, Genova, Italy, which dates back to ancient times, and whose glorious past has played a significant role in history.  Among its varied and more light-hearted  roles, it is  birth place of Christopher Columbus and the violinist, Paganini (whose personal violin we will visit), and  the city for which blue jeans were named.

Recco on the Italian Riviera

We begin in Nice, France, with a stay at a historic hotel founded in the 1930's located on the water's edge, boasting nearby beautiful gardens for guests to enjoy.  It is located in "Old Nice" with its charming, characteristic buildings and open-air markets.  The Promenade des Anglais along the beachfront is just steps away.

The Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France

In Rapallo, Italy, we enjoy up-close, breath-taking views from the hotel Italia e Lido, the only hotel on the waterfront that boasts its own private beach as well as divine garden terraces where guests can sit, enjoy a drink, and watch the sun setting over the ocean.  Absolute tranquility at its finest!

Santa Margherita on the Italian Riviera

Guests choose which activities and locations they would like to see every step of the way!   Both hotels and all of our activities except the castle and church on the cliff in Portofino are accessible for people who have difficulty walking.  In Monaco and Monte Carlo, for instance, a charming tourist train will transport visitors to all of the most important and popular locations, including the Grimaldi Palace high on the "Rock."

Boccadasse at the end of Corso Italia, Genova, Italy

The gourmets in the group will appreciate the many opportunities to explore French and Italian cuisine and wines in world-famous locations such as the Cafe' de Paris in front of the Monte Carlo Casino.  Daniela also will tempt your sweet tooth in Portofino and introduce you to the village's specialty, Paciugo, at her favorite  open-air caffe' on the water's edge.

Art and architecture enthusiasts and photography buffs will enjoy sensory overloads if they choose to visit the many museums in Nice, the Grimaldi Palace, Oceanographic Museum, Port Hercules where the mega-yachts are moored, the Cathedral where Princess Grace is buried in Monaco, and the Casino in Monte Carlo. We also will get to see the very special Changing of the Guard in the palace courtyard. For those who enjoy walking, we also will explore Castello Brown and the Chiesa di San Giorgio on the cliff in Portofino.  While in Genova, we will enjoy a driven tour of this historic port city, see Christopher Columbus' little moss-covered house,  and visit a unique monumental sculpture museum in a VERY unique setting up high in the hills.

Our fiber enthusiasts will have the opportunity to sit and enjoy knitting, crocheting, hand spinning, and embroidering in the gardens, promenades and beaches in Nice, Monaco, Monte Carlo, Camogli, Recco, Portofino, Santa Margherita, Rapallo and Genova.  We have yarn crawls planned in Nice, Monaco, Rapallo and Genova - what excruciating places to shop for yarn! If you have a special outing you wish to explore, our private driver is ready to go!

If you love simply gorgeous, scenic views of the ocean,  appreciate great wines and French and Italian cuisine, love to explore the art and architecture of the area, and can't get enough fabulous shopping, this is the vacation for you! Only have a week off from work?  This vacation fits your schedule since we have 5 full days of amazing activities, which allows you a full day to travel to and from your destination.

For fiber enthusiasts, this would be a fabulous way to cap off the July transatlantic knitting cruise to London, a great pre-vacation to our workshop with Galina Khmeleva in the Alps, or a great way to spend a few days in Europe and do both the cruise AND the workshop in the Alps!
