We are thrilled to have Beth teaching this very special workshop in the Italian Alps and Venice, Italy, two of the most interesting locations in the world in which to learn her renown techniques for knitting beautiful, ethnic sweaters, mittens and socks! Have you always wanted to learn the Norwegian Purl? Have you taken a class with Beth before, but want a much more private and individual experience? You will be inspired by your majestic surroundings as you enjoy one of the most personalized workshops available with Beth! We cap our class size at 20 people maximum, and often try to keep our numbers closer to 10-12 so that every person truly has a chance to work with Beth on an individual basis throughout your all-inclusive, ten day knitting vacation!
We spend one entire day in Venice, Italy, exploring interesting places and activities with Beth and Daniela (your organizer, translator and recognized guide) that strip away the surface layer of Venice that prevents most tourists from experiencing the TRUE vibrant city known to Italians. We visit one of Venice's most integral families of artisans - the family of maskmakers that revived the Carnevale in Venice that had fallen by the wayside over the last few hundred years, and even have an option for one of the rarest experiences you will ever have in this city of water - a chance to enjoy a history, demo and lesson on how to row "Venetian" style on a rare Venetian vessel both in the lagoon as well as on the canals! You will have the chance to learn to row in the same style as the gondoliers maneuvering their gondolas through this ancient city! Venice really deserves to be seen and appreciated from the water's view, and Daniela's special connections in Venice allows Beth's knitting group to take part in very unique activities! Beth is one of the most respected and beloved teachers in the international knitting community! Her wealth of knowledge, warmth and charm, and ability to explain techniques in many different ways ensures that all of her students leave her workshops proficient in the skills they came to learn! We look forward to meeting many of you this summer and enjoying Beth's legendary workshop in the spirit of fun and friendship! This workshop can be offered to Italian speakers too, since Daniela is there to translate the entire 18 hours of class. |
WORKSHOP LOCATION:The workshop will be held in San Martino di Castrozza (1450m), nestled at the base of the famous Pale di San Martino mountain chain, crown jewel of the Italian Dolomites, located just 68 miles North East of Venice, Italy. Rich in history and tradition, the resort town of San Martino di Castrozza began as a cherished alpine playground over 150 years ago frequented by European aristocracy and royalty. Today, it remains a charming, highly considered, European resort destination for all backgrounds and ages. The workshop also includes a one-day visit to Venice, Italy. Classroom instruction conveniently is held in the hotel after lunch, when the local stores close for "pranzo," Italy's daily celebration of the mid-day meal with their families.
Our mornings will be reserved for unique and special outings to explore our local surroundings, and will encompass a variety of experiences, including tantalizing cooking demonstrations in a variety of settings.

Beth has never taught a land-based workshop in Italy, and she is so excited to meet knitters that might never have had a chance to enjoy a knitting vacation with her in an environment that explores the host country more thoroughly than a brief shore excursion. Land-based vacations centered in one location are at the heart of one of the the hottest traveling trends around - Slow Travel, which encourages travelers to explore one area and region thoroughly for more than 1-3 days so you really have a chance to relax and immerse yourself in the culture! We explore some wonderful surrounding towns and natural settings in the region and participate in unique activities every day, but always return to our homebase in the afternoon, giving our students and their traveling companions a chance to really slow down and enjoy their knitting and one another's company and friendship! By the time you leave, you will have had a chance to relax and knit all over town, enjoying the music of the cows and their tinkling cowbells nearby, and being able to greet many of the villagers and shop owners by name! It truly is a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
